Love, Luck, Life

Today, a friend asked me if I could send him pictures of my hands as he is trying to learn palm reading.
I realised I've taken a picture of my soles before, but not of my palms. I thought it would be a good idea to colour the main lines (Heart, Head, and Life) to make them stand out. Plus, it brings me back to a part of my life when I actually believed in the occult (now I just find it entertaining at best)... The story here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2DjzCaP8hs

Clownesque

This fast food restaurant opened a few months ago just opposite our building. Recently, they decided to put this abomination outside, to attract children, I guess.
I think clowns are freaky, and that this thing seriously defaces Phnom Penh.

Monkey Do

This friendly fella showed up at our window (yes, we have bars at our windows... to deter burglars I guess). He was so much fun!! he posed in all kinds of ways and was very expressive.
I know it looks like he's laughing or screaming, but he was actually yawning.

Alas

"Wings".
My camera just kept putting things out of focus for some reason. I was too tired to try and fix it. I like this the way it is.

Relaxed

Feeling exhausted, so it's best not to show my face.
I was trying to recreate the feeling of peacefulness of today. It rained most of the day, and this ceremony has been going on since last night with prayers, chants, and traditional music. It takes you somewhere else.
My hand looks fat in this.

Couple Walking

Complete serendipity. It's only when I edited it that I saw the birds. It looks almost staged! or PhotoShopped, which is kind of funny.

Silhouettes

It might not be as crisp as it should, but the light was just too good to pass.
You can see the silhouette of Wat Phnom in the middle.

Freaky

Continuing with the freaky series... I was messing around with my camera, trying to take pictures of me lying down (again!), with a slow aperture setting. I opened, then closed my eyes, and this is the result. It looks like it's been edited, but it hasn't. It has two pictures in one, it's kinda neat.
PT: crop.

Wet Wall

Wall getting wet as the rain falls on it... this has been under construction since we arrived 5 months ago. Lots of work has been done already, but it doesn't seem to have an end...

Street Vendors

When the "coconut" man and the "cooking on the side of the road" man meet... You also have an example of what men do here when it's really hot: pull up their shirt! I've never seen that anywhere else...

Princess Shoes

Nearly all of the younger girls have a version of those. Then they take them out to play skipping rope. There are shoes lying around everywhere during recess.

Ghost-Like

After zombies, ghosts... This one came out by accident. I intended to do something else. It didn't work out so I ended up keeping this picture. I like the blurry effect. I just set the aperture to slow, and here's the result.

Zombie

Messing around with my lighter outside. I think this is the scariest picture of me yet. The light in my eyes... and the little "thunderbolts" around me... I look either on drugs or back from the undead.

Sculpture

This is so lush. That's actually how green it is. The sculpture caught my attention. I went by it several times and never noticed it before today.

Thank You For Coming

I'm not a fan of photo-montage, but this is better than having two separate pictures. Seen at the restaurant today.

Cleaning

There are not a lot of things that I mind doing, but cleaning is one. I hate the waste of time associated with it. And I'm not too fond of the local tools either - creepy straw broom and dodo-bird on a stick. Help!

Royal Palace

Out of all the pictures I took today, I liked this one best. I didn't do any post-treatment, the colours were actually like this. For once, the Royal Palace was lit. I think the motion blur looks good here. As with most of my pictures, I took this one while on the tuk-tuk.

Teenager

I help some kids after work everyday with their homework and stuff. This was taken in the room of one of those boys. It shows the priorities are still the same as when I was a kid: music and accessories.

I had an idea for this sort of picture for a while. Then I read the DS assignment for today (http://dailyshoot.com/assignments/549) and went along with it.

"... will I ever take a good picture again?"
I'm pretty much back to normal, but inspiration is on strike. Maybe tomorrow...

Tuk-tuk Window

It was raining this morning when we went to work. The tuk-tuk we rode had the sides down and little windows. It was fun.

Jumping for Monsoon

After it's been this hot and humid, when it starts raining, you really feel like jumping. You do. Plus, I love rain.
It was raining when I took this, although it doesn't really show unless you look up close. My head is cut off, but it's probably better that way.

PT: contrast/lighting.

Tropical Rain

It rained heavily as I was at the restaurant. The terrace was shaded, but even then, it was raining so hard and it was so windy, I started feeling a few drops on me. The table you see was wet and people were hiding in tuk-tuks.
Ah, monsoon.
The widescreen setting was an accident, but I actually like it.

Recycling

Continuing with what I ended up calling "Everyday Life Series"... such a serious title...
Here we have a man who went through rubbish and pulled aside cardboard, cans, etc, to "recycle" and get a few thousand riels...

CocoRainbow

Anyone who knows me knows I like anything Japanese. Living in SEA, I'm lucky enough to find Japanese items in the supermarket! Like those sweets and melon juice.
The name for this picture is a mixture of the items name and a reference to one of my favourite bands, CocoRosie.
